In this article I am going to talk about the different Domain Hosting Types.  This is going to be more of a general look at what is available out there.  I will get into specifics in another article where I will look at features and give you some of the numbers that go with them.

Types Of Domain Hosting

Free Domain Hosting Types

This is discussed in much greater depth in its own independent article.  Free Domain Hosting types, as the name implies, is free!  If you’re keeping it really simple, this may be a wise and suitable way to go.  Probably the three biggest things to consider before choosing free hosting are:

1.  Your real control over the Web site may be very limited.

2.  More than likely, your going to have advertising, usually in the form of a banner ad at the top and bottom of each page.

3.  Compared to paid domain hosting types, your options and available tools and functions will be limited.

Shared Domain Hosting Types

This is, as the name implies, Shared Domain Hosting Types.  But, don’t let the name scare you off.  This is the type of hosting used by a huge percentage of Web sites out there.  And yes, that includes eCommerce sites too!  Although you are technically sharing the servers at the hosting provider, in most cases you can not see the difference in service.  In recent years hosting plans have become quite affordable while service provided also greatly improves.  To be quite honest, there’s so much competition from hosting providers, they have been forced in increase the “value” of their service or be forced out of business.

Dedicated Server, VPS (Virtual Private Server), And Cloud

The simple truth about these is that they are the “higher end” of domain hosting types.  They provide a much higher level of service and performance and you are not sharing any of that with anyone else.  With higher service comes higher prices and considering the level you are at now, there’s really no need to go into any detail about these other than letting you know there is a higher level available when you reach that point.  By the time you reach the level of needing one of these, you’ll already know more about them than any single article can explain!

Reseller Accounts

Again, this is probably a hosting plan that is above your level of need right now, but depending on your specific needs and plans, you should be aware of it early in the game.  As the name suggests, this is a hosting account that can become it’s own business.  “You” become the hosting provider and sell hosting plans directly to your own customers.  You will have the ability from within your account to set up new accounts for the customers you recruit.  In fact, most reseller plans allow you to totally mask the true hosting company giving these new accounts the full appearance as if “you” were the provider.  Again, probably not something you would want or need on day one, but certainly an option to consider for future expansion.
